Former US President Donald Trump took to his own social media platform, Truth Social, to react to the overturned suspension of US striker Folarin Balogun. “Thank you to FIFA for doing the right thing and correcting a great injustice.”

Donald Trump had not previously made an appearance at the World Cup, but the former US President has now voiced his opinion following the reversal of Folarin Balogun's sanction. It's an open secret that Trump maintains close ties with FIFA President Gianni Infantino. Infantino himself presented the former American president with the widely discussed “FIFA Peace Award.”

“This only fuels speculation,” commented journalist Tom Budewel.

“After the match, Trump had already threatened to halt the tournament if FIFA didn't overturn the suspension. This exerts immense pressure. Everyone knows Infantino and Trump are in direct communication,” the journalist claimed, as reported by Belgian media outlets.

Florian Balogun himself had scored three goals so far, one of which came in the Round of 32 clash against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The striker was sent off after a VAR intervention for a particularly nasty stomp on an opposing player, which could have resulted in a broken bone. The referee issued a direct red card, meaning a one-match ban. Earlier today, FIFA surprisingly announced that the suspension would be overturned, making the striker available for Mauricio Pochettino in the Round of 16 encounter against Belgium.
