Jurgen Klopp is already without Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho in defensive and has decided to take Caulker on loan.

The former Tottenham defender could be thrown straight into the team to face Arsenal in a home Premier League clash on Wednesday.

Caulker completed his medical in London and agreed terms with the club and ahead of the midday deadline to be eligible to play on Wednesday evening.

The 24-year-old was on loan at Southampton before returning to his parent club QPR.

His last game Southampton was coincidentally against Liverpool in a 6-1 League Cup defeat last month.

“LFC have completed the signing of Steven Caulker on loan until from Queens Park Rangers until the end of the season,” Liverpool said on their Twitter account

“The relevant paperwork has been completed in time to allow the centre-back to be eligible for selection for Wednesday evening’s Barclays Premier League fixture with Arsenal at Anfield.

“Caulker, who has Premier League experience as well as being capped by England, showed a willingness to commit to the Reds at short notice.

“The 24-year-old’s arrival eases the injury situation the club are currently facing in defence, which includes both short and long-term absentees.”
