Just over a week after his season-long loan from Bayern concluded, Tottenham has officially bid farewell to João Palhinha. It's now virtually confirmed that the club will not pursue a permanent move for the midfielder this summer, despite having a €30 million purchase option.

The club posted a message on social media on Wednesday, addressed to the Portuguese international. "Always at his best when we needed him most, giving his all for the club. You'll always be part of our family, João," the message read. Sporting CP is also not an option for his future, following the arrival of Altimira.

The message refers to Palhinha's crucial goal against Everton (1-0) on the final matchday, which secured Tottenham's Premier League survival by two points over Nuno Espírito Santo's West Ham, who were relegated to the Championship. In the 2025/26 season, Palhinha enjoyed his most prolific campaign, netting 7 goals and providing 2 assists in 45 appearances.

With João Palhinha out of the picture, Tottenham has already confirmed the arrivals of two midfield reinforcements for a combined total exceeding €200 million. One of these new signings is also Portuguese: Mateus Fernandes (€98M). Sandro Tonali (€108M) from Newcastle was the other high-profile acquisition.
