Chelsea continues its pursuit of FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa and is reportedly preparing a formal offer at the behest of new manager Xabi Alonso.

Mid-June reports from the English press indicated that Alonso was dissatisfied with the performances of goalkeepers Robert Sánchez and Filip Jorgensen last season, identifying the position as a priority for reinforcement.

The Portuguese international's strong showings at the 2026 World Cup have intensified Chelsea's interest, with the London club having tracked the 26-year-old for some time.

However, Chelsea's initial approach may fall short of FC Porto's demands. According to transfer specialist journalist Ekrem Konur, the English club is currently willing to offer only €40 million, a figure considerably lower than what FC Porto is seeking.

FC Porto has no intention of negotiating their goalkeeper's departure and points to his release clause, set at €60 million. The Dragons' stance is bolstered not only by Diogo Costa's performance for the national team but also by interest from other European giants like Bayern Munich and PSG.

Following Portugal's elimination from the World Cup by Spain, the goalkeeper visited Olival before heading on vacation, a gesture well-received by Farioli's coaching staff and the club's hierarchy. He is now expected to return for the pre-season presentation match on July 25th.
