While the contract renewal isn't finalized, Bruno Fernandes is expected to soon confirm his continued stay at Old Trafford. He is entering the final year of his current Manchester United deal, which includes an option for an additional year.

Last summer, Fernandes considered a move to Saudi Arabia, enticed by a lucrative financial offer. However, he opted to remain at Old Trafford for another season to assess if the club's ambitions aligned with his own. Prior to departing for the 2026 World Cup, he reportedly assured the club of his desire to stay.

Negotiations between his representatives and the club's management for an improved contract have been ongoing. Although a final agreement hasn't been reached, the British newspaper Daily Mirror reports that the club has also convinced the Portuguese captain by reinforcing his position as the squad's highest-paid player. Last season, he shared that top spot with Casemiro (who has since departed and signed with Inter Miami), earning a staggering £375,000 per week, approximately €435,000.

Fernandes, 31, has entered the final year of his current contract, which includes a 12-month extension option. Manager Michael Carrick has emphasized the importance of securing his captain's continuity, viewing him as a fundamental piece in the team's Premier League title aspirations.

Carrick's arrival, replacing Ruben Amorim, was a decisive factor for the midfielder. Under his leadership, Manchester United secured their return to the UEFA Champions League and have been strengthening the squad with the aim of competing for trophies next season.

Bruno Fernandes is currently on holiday after participating in the 2026 World Cup with Portugal and is expected to report for pre-season training next week.

At that time, the extension is expected to be finalized, making last season's Player of the Year the club's highest earner, with a salary around £400,000 weekly, approximately €465,000 per week.

Bruno Fernandes's continued presence is seen as a massive boost for Manchester United, given his significant influence on the team since his transfer from Sporting in 2020.
