Transfer Market: After Manchester United move falls through, Éderson secures future
After his transfer to Manchester United collapsed due to an issue detected during his medical examination, Éderson has extended his contract with Atalanta, the Bergamo club announced this Friday.
It's worth recalling that the Old Trafford club had reached an agreement with the Italian Serie A side on June 2nd for a fee of £35 million (approximately €41 million) to secure the 27-year-old's signature. However, the transfer ultimately fell through.
The medical tests, initially scheduled for early July, had to be postponed as the midfielder received a last-minute call-up to the Brazil national team for the 2026 World Cup, replacing the injured Wesley.
Following Brazil's exit from the tournament in the Round of 16, with a 2-1 defeat to Norway, Éderson traveled to England for the necessary medical assessments. Initial examinations conducted in the United States had already raised suspicions about a potential issue, prompting the need for a more in-depth evaluation with specialists.
The final results of the medical tests led Manchester United to withdraw from the deal. BBC Sport reports that although reactivating the transfer at a later date and under different terms was considered, the player ultimately chose to renew his contract with Atalanta. The duration of the new agreement was not disclosed by the Italian club.
Meanwhile, Michael Carrick's side has already bolstered its midfield with the signings of Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa and Andrey Santos from Chelsea, in addition to securing goalkeeper Karl Darlow, who was previously with Leeds.
