According to Mr Zeph Oerie, the Federal Road Safety Commissioner (FRSC) Unit Commander in Eket, these traffic violators committed 603 offences during this period.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on May 26, 2016, he stated tyre and seat belt violations as the most common offences.
"We have apprehended 478 traffic offenders with 603 offences from January to May and the most prevailing offences are tyre and seat belt violations.
Motorists are not complying with the rule of fastening their seat belts while driving,’’ Okerie said.
30 of these offenders were convicted by a Mobile Court in March.
Speaking on the seat belt violations, he said the FRSC unit was working hard to enforce this traffic rule.
"We are carrying out effective enforcement to make road users comply with traffic rules and regulations,’’ he said.
The Unit commander also spoke on the tyre violation, advising motorists to always check for expiry date of tyre before buying and avoid using second hand (Tokunbo) tyres.
