Rodriguez, unseeded, won a thriller against 2014 runner-up Gaultier of France 11-13 14-12 8-11 11-8 11-9 in 88 minutes.

The second seed had his chances but Rodriguez - who said he adapted his game for the challenge of Gaultier - stormed home on the back of support from the American crowd.

"I'm really happy to be in the semi-finals and I'm going to enjoy it," Rodriguez told the Professional Squash Association's official website afterwards.

"I was ready to play against Greg tonight and the strategy that I prepared with my coach David [Palmer] paid off.

"I knew if I was going to play long rallies against Greg, I wasn't going to win.

"So I tried to volley more I'm very happy with the way I played."

Rodriguez will play third seed Nick Matthew for a berth in the final.

Matthew defeated Germany's Simon Rosner earlier, 10-12 11-4 11-7 11-6.

The Englishman recovered well from a slow start and, despite Rodriguez's breakthrough win, will be a big favourite.

Thursday's other semi-final will see world number one Mohamed Elshorbagy face fellow Egyptian Amr Shabana.

Shabana, seeded fourth, won the event last year.
