The Spurs have thus won the race for the 21-year-old talent, who was also heavily pursued by Manchester United. However, United declined to meet the financial demands of both West Ham and the player. Furthermore, the Portuguese international will become Tottenham's most expensive signing in the club's history. His contract is expected to be for 5+1 years, adds Nicolò Schira.

Fernandes spent just one season at West Ham, who paid 44 million euros for him to Southampton a year ago. Last season, the midfielder contributed five goals and five assists in 42 appearances across all competitions. He is poised to be Tottenham's fourth new signing, following defenders Andrew Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Jan Paul van Hecke.
