Toulon have completed the signing of Japan international Ayumu Goromaru for next season.

The 30-year-old full-back has amassed 56 caps for his country, scoring 708 points.

Goromaru rose to prominence with a series of fine performances at last year's Rugby World Cup, where Japan became the first team to win three matches in the pool stage and not reach the quarter-finals, including a memorable victory over heavyweights South Africa.

Toulon confirmed the signing on their official website, with Goromaru penning one-year deal with the option for a 12-month renewal.

"He is a great player and a great points scorer," Toulon president Mourad Boudjellal told the club's website.

Goromaru, who joined Super Rugby side Queensland Reds for the 2016 campaign, is recovering after undergoing shoulder surgery last month.

He will be in attendance when Toulon contest the Top 14 semi-finals against either Montpellier or Castres on June 18.
