Woods has not played since the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship in early March, meaning he missed both the Masters and last week's US Open.

The former world number one underwent microdiscectomy surgery to repair a pinched nerve in his back, but could now feature when The Open takes place at Royal Liverpool from July 17.

"Tiger is making continual progress," his agent Mark Steinberg told the PGA Tour website on Tuesday. "He feels better each day and can extend his swing as he moves forward."

Woods is scheduled to host the Quicken Loans National at Congressional next week, though whether or not he will play is yet to be announced.

He will, however, be hopeful of making a return at The Open, a tournament he has won on three previous occasions, in 2000, 2005 and 2006.

Woods' last Open win came at Royal Liverpool, the venue for this year's event.
