Rangana Herath became just the second Sri Lankan to take a Test hat-trick as he ripped Australia apart on Friday.

The left-arm spinner removed Adam Voges, Peter Nevill and Mitchell Starc to claim a hat-trick during the second Test in Galle.

Herath had Voges caught brilliantly by Dimuth Karunaratne for eight before trapping Nevill plumb in front with the next ball.

He hit Starc on the pads with his next delivery and Sri Lanka eventually decided to review the not-out call.

After a long wait, the Australia bowler was given out as Herath joined Nuwan Zoysa (in 1999) as the only Sri Lankans with Test hat-tricks.

Australia were left at 80-7 in response to the hosts' 281 when Starc fell.
