7 Nigerian wrestlers chase Olympic medals in Brazil

Seven wrestlers will be flying the Green, White, Green flag of Nigeria at the 2016 Olympic Games in Ruo, Brazil.

The wrestlers are Amas Daniel (65 kg event) Soso Tamarau (97 kg) Mercy Genesis (48 kg) Odunayo Adekuoroye (53 kg) Aminat Adeniyi (58 kg) Blessing Oborududu (63 kg) and Hannah Rueben (69 kg).

Six of the wrestlers qualified from the African/Oceania Olympic qualifiers in Algeria.

Adekuoroye, competing in the 53kg event qualified first before four other female wrestlers and two male freestyle wrestlers joined her.

With seven wrestlers, this is highest number to ever qualify for the Games in the history of wrestling in Nigeria.

Medals hopefuls for Nigeria, include African champion, Amas and Africa bronze medallist, Tamarau.

All Africa Games champion, Genesis will also be competing for medals.

Nigeria has never won a medal in wrestling at the Olympic Games.
