Jonathan Rea claims another double at Imola
Jonathan Rea further extended his lead in the Superbike World Championship with his third double victory of the season at Imola.
The Kawasaki rider won an opening race shortened to just six laps after a crash involving David Salom (Team Pedercini) forced organisers to wave the red flags.
Pole sitter Davide Giugliano (Ducati) had led the Kawasaki duo of Sykes and Rea at the front, only for the latter to triumph following a tense final lap.
Sykes took second while Giugliano - making his return to the paddock after breaking two vertebrae in testing in February - was third.
And Northern Irishman Rea replicated the feat in a second race that went the full 19 laps and marked his 150th as a Superbike rider.
Sykes made it a second one-two finish of another dominant weekend for Kawasaki, with Jordi Torres (Aprilia) rounding off the podium positions.
Rea now leads the championship standings by 87 points from Leon Haslam (Aprilia).
