Rohr focused on South Africa, not Cameroon
Technical Adviser of the
The Super Eagles will face Cameroon in a doubleheader in August and September 2017 in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
With Cameroon now the reigning champions of Africa, much focus has been on the World Cup qualifier but Rohr’s mind is only on South Africa for now.
Nigeria and South Africa are in Group E of the qualifiers for AFCON 2019 and will face each other in June.
Libya and the Seychelles are the other countries in Group E.
“I understand that Nigerians are concerned about our progress to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, but don’t forget that we have not qualified for the AFCON since 2013 and the crucial game against South Africa is in June, so I want to focus on that,” Rohr told Complete Sports.
“We have six months between now and August when we play Cameroun. Between now and then we are going to play two friendly games, as well as the qualifier against South Africa. If we do well in those games, it will help our confidence against Cameroun.”
Both Nigeria and South Africa played in the same group for the qualifiers for AFCON 2015 and both also failed to qualify.
