Ecuadorian midfielder Moisés Caicedo has reportedly agreed to a lucrative new contract with Chelsea, extending his stay at Stamford Bridge until 2033, according to BBC Sport. The 24-year-old sought a salary increase after playing a pivotal role in the club's UEFA Conference League and Club World Cup triumphs last season, despite his current deal running until 2031.

This renewal is part of a broader club strategy to reward its top-performing players. Captain Reece James was the first to sign a new deal, and Chelsea is reportedly negotiating at least one more agreement before the season concludes. The club's policy is to incentivize good performance, as seen with Cole Palmer early last season, through a salary structure based on bonuses and achieving objectives like UEFA Champions League qualification.

Caicedo joined Chelsea in 2023 from Brighton in what was then a British record transfer, valued at €116 million, potentially rising to €136 million. This fee has since been surpassed by Liverpool's acquisition of Alexander Isak for €140 million. The Ecuadorian midfielder's initial contract was for eight years.

Regarded by Chelsea as one of the world's premier midfielders and a team captain, Caicedo has been a cornerstone of the squad. Last season, under Enzo Maresca, he was the only player to start every Premier League match. This campaign, he remains a regular fixture, having played 42 games and scored five goals from his defensive midfield position.

When questioned during an international break about potential interest from Real Madrid, Caicedo was unequivocal about his future: "I'm focused on my club right now. I want to be a legend." Meanwhile, other players like midfielder Enzo Fernández and defender Levi Colwill have also reportedly discussed potential new contracts in the last six months.

However, the situation for former Benfica player Enzo Fernández is more complex. He is returning from a two-game internal suspension, imposed after comments about his desire to live in the Spanish capital amid rumors linking him to Real Madrid. Following manager Liam Rosenior's announcement of the suspension, Fernández's agent, Javier Pastore, stated in an interview with The Athletic that the player "deserves much more than he is currently earning."
