South Korea's national team captain, Son Heung-min, has issued an apology to the fans, vowing that he and his teammates will work tirelessly to regain their trust. This comes after the shocking early exit of the Asian side from the World Cup group stage, following a surprising 0-1 loss to South Africa.

The Korean team finished third in Group A and tenth overall among third-placed teams, which was insufficient to advance, as only eight of the twelve teams qualified for the knockout rounds.

"I don't believe a mere apology can heal the disappointment and pain people are feeling right now," the forward wrote on social media.

"Every day, every moment, countless thoughts and emotions run through my mind. I wanted to share them with all of you who are going through even tougher times. However, instead of doing it with words, I intend to do it with actions and earn back the trust of Korean football fans. I dedicate my life to football to bring you happiness. I haven't forgotten my promises to you. Until the day you need me again, I will give my all to be ready and return stronger. We bear immense responsibility for failing to repay the time, support, courage, and love you give us," added the star of Korean football.

Son's post came just a day after the national coach resigned, and President Lee Jae-myung ordered an investigation into the reasons for the team's early elimination. This task was assigned to Sports Minister Lee Jae-myung.

"The next step is to implement reforms in sports administration to prevent such occurrences in the future," Lee stated in an official announcement.
