Simeone rests Hancko for an hour as Atlético snatch dramatic late victory

Atlético Madrid, featuring Slovak international defender Dávid Hancko, secured their fourth consecutive La Liga win. In Saturday's Matchday 8 fixture against Deportivo Alavés, they appeared headed for a draw until Argentine defender Cristian Romero struck in the 87th minute to seal a 2-1 triumph.

Los Colchoneros took the lead in the first half through Alejandro Grimaldo, but Lucas Boyé equalized from the penalty spot just before the break. The hosts were reduced to ten men in the 61st minute when Ángel Pérez was sent off. Atlético eventually capitalized on the numerical advantage as Romero headed home from Álex Baena's cross to seal the win.

Hancko, who featured in all four of Slovakia's fixtures during the international break, entered the pitch in the 62nd minute as a replacement for Robin Le Normand.

Elsewhere, the clash between Rayo Vallecano and Athletic Bilbao was suspended at 0-0 amid protests against the Madrid club's president, Raúl Martín Presa, as home supporters hurled paper planes onto the pitch.
