Sights From Arise Magazine Fashion Awards

With fixed generators and a 100-meter-long tent and a schedule of 77 designers, the <strong>ARISE Magazine Fashion Week (AMFW)</strong> kicked off with 16 back-to-back catwalk shows in just under five hours.

Eight home-grown Nigerian designers showed how the country had come of age. Kola Kuddus opened the extravaganza with his mix of tradition-meets-modern menswear; Meena revealed her tailored and draped dresses; and audience favourite, Mai Atafo's matching three-piece suits, flat caps, large rimmed glasses, checked trousers, tartan – including full suitcases, showed us that real men can wear black sequin suits with corsages and brooches – and had the audience on their feet!

It was the first appearance for the young AMFW2011 «Model of the Year» Chika Emmanuel, she appeared in a black and gold bodycon mini dress for Toju Foyeh.The other models had a lot of fun and teased the audience in Re Bahia's show by sporting spotty tops, colourful wigs, striped hot pants and lacy see-through dresses.   American designer, Laquan Smith with the aid of supermodels Aminat, Millen, Georgie and Sigail drew gasps of excitement and applauds as they strutted in neoprene and plastic dresses and laced up thigh-high boots.

Davido, Naeto C and W4 – duo put the audience in a party mood to get the party started.   The highlight of the night belonged to South Africa's Gavin Rajah - who, fresh from the airport, produced the night's finale with a haute couture show like no other with his elegant, soft, womanly, shimmering, hand-crafted.   Saturday's line up included: House of Silk, Maki Oh, House of Nwocha, Adama-Paris, Kiki Kamanu, Karolyne Ashley, Kinabuti, Ejiro Amos Tafiri, Prajje 1983, Clan, Ohema Ohene, Amine Bendirouich Couture &BS, Zooni, Iconic Invanity, Laurenceairline, U.MI-1, Mataano, Jacob Kimmie, Tsemaye Binitie, Odio Mimonet, PPQ, Tiffany Amber
