"Shameful and Scandalous!" Croatians Attack Serbian MMA Fighter After UFC Belgrade
- You could follow the entire UFC Fight Night event in Belgrade live on Sportal.
Borislav Nikolić was one of the Serbian fighters who secured a victory on Saturday evening.
After three rounds and a thrilling encounter, Nikolić defeated Russia's Vologdin. However, following the fight, he became the target of Croatian media, particularly the portal "Gol.dnevnik," which criticized Nikolić for the song he chose for his walkout.
The song in question, "Sini jarko sunce sa Kosova" (Shine Bright Sun from Kosovo), sparked strong reactions from the Croatian outlet.
This highly talented fighter deservedly earned his spot in the UFC program, but we believe the UFC should have checked his past. This is a young man who has already offended many Croatian sports fans with some inaccurate comments, but what he did at this event simply should not have gone without a reaction from the UFC.Gol.dnevnik
Specifically, lyrics mentioning Dubrovnik and Knin were highlighted, which Croatian media deemed a provocation, and even an attempt to promote a "Greater Serbia ideology."
Nikolić entered the octagon to the song "Sini jarko sunce sa Kosova" performed by Danica Crnogorčević. While this song primarily speaks to the Serbian idea in Kosovo, arguably the most scandalous part is its mention of two Croatian cities.Gol.dnevnik
"In short, shameful and scandalous," the article concluded.
How much money the UFC earned in Belgrade
Belgrade hosted such an event for the first time, and as Dana White confirmed, it certainly won't be the last. The audience in our capital enjoyed 14 fights, with the vast majority ending in first-round knockouts.
Viewers worldwide also enjoyed the spectacle, with the event at the Belgrade Arena receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback. The UFC organization also announced how much money it generated solely from ticket sales at the Arena.
Specifically, 18,623 spectators attended the event, and given that the lowest ticket price was around 100 euros, it was clear the UFC would earn a significant amount.
The final figure reached $2,490,023, which is actually the highest sum in the Arena's history. However, all that money goes to the organization.
Belgrade passed its first UFC test, so there's no doubt another such event will soon take place in our largest city.
UFC awards four $100,000 bonuses
We witnessed incredible fights in Belgrade, and MMA fans were thrilled with the performances. Ultimately, four bonuses of $100,000 each were awarded.
Two went to Uroš Medić and Nina Milošević, who secured victories in our largest arena. Medić had the honor of closing the event, and he needed only 30 seconds to do so – knocking out Daniel Rodrigues with spectacular strikes, to the delight of the fans.
Earlier, Nina Milošević also entered the octagon and achieved a knockout victory.
Her opponent was Australian Hayley Cowan, and Nina convincingly secured the win. Like Uroš, she was awarded $100,000 for her performance of the night.
Finally, it's worth noting that Navajo Stirling and Gilbert Urbina also received $100,000 each.
