The boxing world could be set for a blockbuster showdown between two undefeated multi-division world champions, with US reports confirming that Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney are in advanced talks over a welterweight clash.

Both pound-for-pound mainstays have traded barbs on social media regarding the weight limit, but indications from both camps suggest that a deal is now close to being finalized.

Four-division champion Stevenson (25-0, 11 KOs) shifted his focus to current WBO welterweight king Haney (33-0, 15 KOs) after plans for a bout against Manny Pacquiao fell through. That fight was slated as the co-main event for a major Netflix card in Cardiff, Wales, topped by Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury, but organizers found it financially unfeasible to accommodate two eight-figure purses on the same bill.

Prior to the Stevenson opportunity materializing, the 27-year-old Haney had been in talks to face IBF champion Liam Paro, targeting a November 28 return in Atlanta.

Meanwhile, the 29-year-old Stevenson, who fights under the Zuffa Boxing banner, also held discussions with WBA super lightweight champion Gary Antuanne Russell. Those negotiations broke down after Russell's brother and trainer, Gary Russell Jr., revealed the offer was under $2 million.

Over the last 24 hours, Stevenson issued a clear statement across social media:

"Let's stop negotiating on the internet. It's time to show some guts in front of the whole world and make the biggest and best fight in boxing."

The primary sticking point remains the weight limit. Haney wants the bout contested at the full welterweight limit of 147 lbs without a rehydration clause, whereas Stevenson, coming off a decisive 140-lb debut win against Teofimo Lopez, is pushing for a 144-lb catchweight.
