Sergio Perez is set to remain with Cadillac in Formula 1 through 2027. The Mexican driver confirmed at Zandvoort that he will compete for the American team in their second season in the world championship.
Despite rumors linking him to Williams and Alpine, Sergio Perez is staying put. Even with the limitations of the Cadillac car, the Mexican has been having a strong season with the F1 debutant. It comes as no surprise, therefore, that Perez will continue with Cadillac for another year.
Speaking to the media about the 2027 season, Perez stated: “Well, from my side, it was clear when I came here. The contract was for two years. But obviously, I want this. I see this as my project, and I want to be part of Cadillac long-term because when you start something from scratch, it takes a lot of time.”
Perez even hinted at the possibility of staying with Cadillac beyond next season. “I’m really happy here and I look forward to continuing long-term. I think there will be some discussions later, and we’ll see what happens,” he added.
This season, Perez has repeatedly asserted that he still considers himself among the top drivers on the Formula 1 grid. He certainly demonstrated this in the early months of the season, pushing the Cadillac car further up the field than it realistically should have been. In Monaco, Perez even appeared poised to score Cadillac's first points, but lost his top-10 position after a penalty.
Perez returned to Formula 1 at the start of this season after a year-long hiatus. The Mexican lost his seat as Max Verstappen's teammate at Red Bull Racing at the end of 2024 following a challenging year with the Austrian team. At that time, there were no other available seats in Formula 1, leaving Perez with no option but to take a break.
