Drama as 84 lawmakers pass vote of confidence on Senate President

The Senate has passed a “Vote of Confidence” on President, Bukola Saraki.

The decision was taken today, September 29, 2015, at the resumption of the upper legislative house after a six-week recess.

The Motion was raised by Senator David Umaru from Niger East and supported by 84 Senators.

However, Senator Kabir Garba Marafa, who represents Zamfara Central, opposed the motion and walked out.

The session continued and was later adjourned to Wednesday, September 30.

Saraki has been in the eye of the storm since he was accused of assets declaration fraud by the Code of Conduct Bureau.

The Senate had however earlier said that it would stand behind Saraki despite the allegations.
