According to The Guardian, officials of the Presidency are suspicious of the move which they see as an attempt to stop the CCB from prosecuting a top member of the National Assembly for corruption.
Senate President, Bukola Saraki was, in 2015, accused of asset declaration fraud by the CCB.
Sarakiis currently facing trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) over the charges.
The Senate President is alleged to have committed the offence during his tenure as governor of Kwara State.

Saraki has insisted severally that his trial has nothing to do with corruption but is instead a form of political persecution.
