British singer sells 1m copies of debut album in UK and America

British soul singer Sam Smith is the first music act this year to sell one million copies in the United Kingdom and the United States of America separately.

Upon hitting the milestone achievement when it was announced by the Official Charts Company (OCC), the 22 year old singer thanked individuals who bought his album.

“Thank you so much to every single person who has purchased my album" said Sam Smith. Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift have also sold a million copies of their albums in both countries, but not separately.
