The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) last week released a three-man shortlistfor the Super Eagles coaching job that include Yusuf, Frenchman Paul Le Guen and the Belgian Tom Saintfiet.

“I’m honoured to be the only Nigerian coach on the shortlist,” the former Kano Pillars coach told on phone.

“I’m happy that the NFF have shown trust and confidence that I can shoulder the responsibility at this level,” he added.

Sources have revealed that Le Guen is favourite to land the job having agreed a deal with the NFF.

Yusuf however refused to believe the stories, choosing to focus on his interview with the NFF.

“I don’t know where you got that information, I’m not aware of any favourite,”he said when he was asked about the French coach.

“I’m just focused on me and how I can get the job.

“All the coaches short listed are very experienced, but I am convinced I can do the job.”

The 54-year-old who coached the Super Eagles to two friendly wins against Mali and Luxembourg in May 30 has been backed by .

The Lazio midfielder revealed that Super Eagles players would like to see the caretaker boss given the manager's job on a permanent basis.

“Coach Salisu Yusuf has been fantastic, and we would be more than happy for him to get the job," Onazi told .
