South Africa have added Ross Cronje to their squad ahead of Saturday's clash with Wales after Rudy Paige suffered a knee injury.

Golden Lions scrum-half Cronje will join up with the Springboks on Friday as a replacement for Paige, who sustained knee ligament damage in training earlier this week.

Paige is set to be sidelined for four weeks and so Cronje has been called up after Toulouse rejected a request from South Africa for Jano Vermaak to rejoin the squad in Cardiff.

Coach Heyneke Meyer told the Springboks' official website: "Ross impressed during a very successful Absa Currie Cup campaign for the Golden Lions and also showed good form earlier in the year in Vodacom Super Rugby.

"We considered not calling up a third scrum-half but that would've been very risky."

Meyer made five changes to his side for Saturday's Test at the Millennium Stadium, with Tendai Mtawarira, Bismarck du Plessis, Willie le Roux, Cornal Hendricks and Lwazi Mvovo coming in.
