Former Netherlands international Ronald de Boer believes Spanish coach Pep Guardiola is the ideal successor to Ronald Koeman, who recently departed as national team manager.
"It would be perfect for the Netherlands because Pep is the ideal figure. He makes a great impression with every team he's managed, always advocating for offensive and dominant football, with his team rarely ceding possession to the opponent," De Boer stated in an interview with 'De Telegraaf' newspaper.
"Pep is a disciple of Cruyff. He wants to give something back to Dutch football because, as a player and coach, he is who he is thanks to his mentor Johan Cruyff. He says it in every interview. This is his opportunity to express his gratitude through concrete actions," De Boer reasoned, explaining why Guardiola should take charge of the 'Oranje'.
Another former 'Oranje' player, Rafael van der Vaart, holds a different view, suggesting that Koeman should be succeeded by former Liverpool manager Arne Slot.
The Netherlands exited the 2026 World Cup early, losing to Morocco on penalties in the Round of 16.
