Spanish international Rodri has highlighted the pivotal role of Argentine superstar Lionel Messi for the reigning world champions Argentina, ahead of their final clash in the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. The two teams are set to face off on Sunday, July 19th, in East Rutherford, with the Manchester City midfielder calling for a blend of aggression and special attention against the "Albiceleste" captain.

"We need to keep him away from our penalty area. When we have to defend, we'll need to be closer to him and act more aggressively. Our team employs a high press, and that will be crucial on Sunday. Leo is often unpredictable, and we must be extremely careful with him," Rodri told the newspaper "AS."

The European champions' defensive midfielder didn't hold back his praise for the Argentine maestro.

"So many years at the highest level. At his age, to be in such form and to be the best player at the World Cup is truly incredible. For them, he is more than just a footballer. He is a leader and a role model. The entire Argentina team needs to be controlled in every aspect of the game," the Spanish international concluded.
