Roberto Mancini distances himself from Manchester City allegations: 'Nothing to do with me'

Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is unconcerned about being implicated in the multiple financial rule-breach charges facing the club. However, the current Italy boss indirectly conceded that he earned more during his time in England than was stated in his contract.

"I'm not worried about it. The fact that there is a dual contract is not my problem, but likely theirs. These issues have nothing to do with me," Mancini was quoted as saying by AP. Between the 2009–10 and 2017–18 seasons, the club allegedly entered into fictitious contracts to artificially inflate revenues and lower costs.

The total value of the scheme reportedly approached nearly £1 billion. According to German outlet Der Spiegel, Mancini earned more than double the official £1.5 million annual salary stated in his contract. Manchester City allegedly avoided paying roughly £12 million in income tax and national insurance contributions as a result.

The 61-year-old coach managed the team from 2009 to May 2013, guiding the club to both a Premier League title and the FA Cup during his tenure.
