The forward was signed by Liverpool in June 2015 from Bundesliga side, Hoffenheim for £29 million.

Arsenal’s  ill-fated attempt to sign Luis Suarez in 2013 is still playing in the mind of Liverpool who were not happy with an offer of £40million plus £1 from the Gunners.

Arsenal believed that the over £40million offer would trigger a buy-out clause of the now Barcelona striker.

Liverpool owner John W. Henry was so dismayed with that offer that he tweeted "What do you think they're smoking over there at the Emirates?"

The Brazilian has scored five Premier League goals in 13 appearances this season.
