Carlos has nine children; he has two with his current wife, three from his first and the rest with his former partners.

Rio de Janeiro courts were told that the 44-year-old is owing 61,000 Brazilian real (approximately N5.5M) to Barbara Thurler.

According to Spanish news agency , Carlos claimed he has not been able to make payments to Thurler because of financial difficulties he was facing and offered to pay the money in instalments.

Judge Mayane de Castro, however, sentenced him to three months in prison after finding him guilty.

His lawyer Fernando Pittner is however optimistic that the former Real Madrid defender would resolve the issue and not need to go to jail.
