FRSC state commander, Sunday Ajayi, says there has been a 60 percent reduction, between January and July, as compared to 2015, PM News reports.

While there was a reduction in deaths, the number of injuries went up by 20 percent, as there were 392 people in 2016, and 314 in 2015.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka, he attributed this reduction to effective awareness and increased consciousness of safety, amongst road users.

“From what you have seen between January and July, there is a significant improvement on the safety situation on our roads in Anambra this year as compared to 2015.

Crashes reduced, deaths reduced, and the number of those injured increased that is to show that our rescue operations is more timely and efficient and awareness is now high.

On our Mobile Court not much was achieved because the judiciary workers strike here ended just around June,” he added.

There were 42 deaths from 114 accidents for 2016, while 2015 had 110 in a total of 150 crashes.
