PDP wins first house of reps

This is the first result of the relatively violent-ridden election.

The  returning officer,  Okwulehie Ikechukwu, made the announcement at about 2am on Sunday, December 11, The Cable reports.

Tamuno polled 11,668 votes to defeat Maureen Tamuno of the All Progressives Congress, who secured 5,995 votes.

The result was declared at the council hall in Port Harcourt, the collation centre for Rivers East senatorial district.

The returning officer explained that incidents of violence prevented the announcement at the constituency.

"I was escorted here by policemen and soldiers. The level of violence in the area was very high," he said.

In the senatorial district, the PDP is also reported to be leading.

In Ogu/Bolo Local Government, PDP secured 4,578 ahead of the APC, which polled 3,052 votes.

In Omuma, PDP got 5,606 votes while the APC secured 3,052 votes.

The PDP also polled 457 votes while APC got 212 votes in Okrika.
