The men and women's quadruple sculls finals were due take place at the spectacular Lagoa venue, but strong winds put paid to the action on day five.

World Rowing tweeted: "Racing postponed. No racing today. A new schedule will be announced soon."

Places in the final were also due to be secured in the women's pairs, lightweight men's and women's double sculls, men's fours, as well as the men's and women's eights.

World Rowing later confirmed an amended schedule for Thursday, which will include both quadruple sculls finals and a further four medal races.

The postponement marks the second time during the OIympic regatta that rowing has been cancelled for the day, with last Sunday's action also having fallen victim to the conditions.
