Once you can accept what has happened, and prepare to take care of yourself and your emotions, you'll be able to move on and grow past it. Soon you'll start to feel time healing the wounds, and you'll be better and stronger than ever, too.

Here are 7 healthy ways to move past a doleful heartbreak :

1. Accepting What Has Happened

You need to face the heartbreak head on. Its okay to cry and bawl your eyes out, you've been hurt and you feel sad. The pain is completely normal. Research has shown that heartache can be present in the brain like an actual physical pain. You need to accept that the pain is going to be there for a while and be ready to move past it

2.Keep Your Distance

You're going to need to avoid all unnecessary contact. Cutting off ties with an ex is an important step in healing from a breakup. Don't call or text. Don't cyber stalk your ex by sending them messages or looking them up on social media. You'll only be fixated on how they're happy and having a good time without you which will leave you feeling worse. Don't go to hangouts where you know they might be. Don't post vague statuses on social media relating to them in a bid to get their attention. Focusing on the past will definitely ruin your chances of moving forward.

3. Remove Painful Memory Triggers

Pack up any reminders of your ex and put them away.  You could also return their belongings or gather their stuff and arrange a time for him/her to come pick it up. No matter how tempted you are, don't destroy any of their properties because you might regret it later.

4. Get Busy

Hang out with your friends and have fun. Go places and meet new people. Going out after a breakup is needed to feel better. See a movie. Go disco dancing. Sing karaoke. Do things you enjoy and let loose a little. You’ll feel better for it. Concentrate more on work, putting in double efforts can greatly reduce your chances of you thinking about your failed relationship.

5. Don't Rebound

Most people often enter a new relationship following a breakup. This is called a rebound. When you enter a new relationship too soon, you may be masking your negative emotions with the excitement of a new one. If the new relationship doesn't work out, you may have to deal with the pain of two breakups. And this may affect you negatively making you wonder if there's anything wrong with you. Consider being single until you have fully processed your emotions and your ready to move on.

6. Reflect  On Your Relationship

Examine the reasons why your relationship didn't work out, think avoid what made it end in order to move on. You may also be able to avoid making the same mistakes in future if you can identify the mistakes you also contributed in the relationship. Reflect on what you've learned, this will help you not to repeat them again.

7. Take Care Of Yourself

Take time to do things you enjoy, especially if you did fewer of these things while you were with your ex. Think about your strengths and feel proud of them. Do things that make you feel good about yourself. Acknowledging that something bad happened to you, and realizing that you are strong enough to deal with it is a key part of getting over your heartbreak.

You are heartbroken now, but you won’t be heartbroken forever. It sounds cliche, but it’s cliche for a good reason  time really does heal your wounds. You need time to get perspective on things. That's natural. But have faith that it will.
