Players shun training over unpaid salaries

Players of Nigeria Football  Professional League side, Rangers on Friday, September 11 shunned training in protest over unpaid salaries.

According to , the players refused to training as they prepare for a Sunday, NPFL game Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan.

The players, Complete Sports reports have not being paid for five month by the manager of the clubs.

It has also not been easy for the Flying Antelopes who have just won two matches in 11 league games.

The lost last weekend 2-0 to Heartland Football Club of Owerri.

The League Management Company-organisers of the NPFL- have been trying their best to curb cases of unpaid salaries by clubs.

The LMC  have issued a notice of summary jurisdiction to the likes of  Warri Wolves, Dolphins FC and Sharks over their inabilities to pay players.

Chief Operating Officer of the LMC, Salihu Abubakar said the summary jurisdiction notice is a routine exercise which the body will continue to carry out to ensure compliance with regulations.

By this notice, clubs stand to lose six points if they don't pay their players within 60 days of receiving the notice and a further three points for every other 30 days for which the remuneration or entitlement of the players remain unpaid.

The LMC also have strict punishment for striking players who do that without 'exhausting the provisions of the rules which require players of clubs in the league to first issue a notice to the club and also give the LMC a 15-day period within which to intervene'.
