Rafael Nadal booked his place in a seventh Madrid Open final with a 7-6 (7-3) 6-1 victory over Tomas Berdych on Saturday.

The world number four - a four-time champion at his home tournament - saw two break-point openings slip away before eventually edging the first set in the tie-break.

The Spaniard faced no such trouble in the second set, however.

After sharing the opening two games, Nadal won the remaining five, serving to love to seal the win and his place in the final.

The result goes some way to making up for Nadal's defeat to Berdych in the Australian Open quarter-finals, which ended a 17-match winning run for Nadal against his Czech opponent.

Nadal will now face the winner of the second last-four clash between Andy Murray and Kei Nishikori.
