The Bulgarian, seeded No. 2 in the tournament, defeated local player Pietro Romeo Scomparin with a score of 7:6(5), 6:4. The match lasted 2 hours and 50 minutes.

The 23-year-old Bulgarian, currently ranked No. 428 in the world, squandered a break advantage four times in the first set, which ultimately went to a tie-break. In the tie-break, Nesterov fell behind 0:3 but then rallied to win seven of the next nine points, securing the set. He then recovered from a break deficit early in the second set, and a decisive break in the tenth game sealed his victory.

In the second round, Pyotr Nesterov is set to face the winner of the match between Italian players Lorenzo Ferri and Gabriele Noce.

Another Bulgarian national team member, Yanaki Milev, was eliminated in the first round of the singles draw, losing 0:6, 5:7 to the sixth seed, Enrico Dalla Valle, in just over two hours of play. Milev held a 5:3 lead in the second set but then dropped the next four games, leading to his exit from the competition.
