Especially in African communities, having a child or children is deemed a thing of pride as the continuity of one's lineage is ensured. In cases where a couple is not able to have children, they face a form of stigmatization, especially from relatives who believe it is not normal to be married and not have children.

Even with the advent of civilization, a lot of people still maintain the standards of our forefathers and almost always insist that their  partners prove their fertility before they tie the knot.
