In the history of Nigeria, no female has ever been elected to the highest position in the land, maybe as a result of the make up of the country or the fact that the women themselves are not doing enough to push for the position.
In year 2011, Sarah Jubril had contested for the president against the likes of eventual winner, Goodluck Jonathan and current APC aspirant, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and at the poll, she got just a single vote. Even the women were not behind her at the time.
In the run up to the 2015 presidential election, Prof. Remi Shonaiya has put up herself for election and though she is not seen by many as being a candidate strong enough to give the men a run for their money, many Nigerians are of the view now that it is time to give the women a chance to aspire to the highest position in the country.
On Pulse Nigeria Poll of 5 February, 2015, we put up this poser:
Amazingly, a whopping 65.7% of readers agreed that Nigeria is ripe for a female president while 34.3% think otherwise.
How Nigeria voted:
65.7% - Yes
34.3% - No
How would you vote on this?
