5 things to consider when making an artist logo
We’ve mentioned time and time again in our weekly music tips that working in the music industry as an artist is not just about the music. You need to see your art as a business if you are not already doing so.
Most record labels have recognizable logos. For example Mavin Records, Chocolate City, etc. But then again, the Nigerian music industry is home to many unsigned and Independent artists. As an artist, you are brand, and you should have a logo of some sort to boost your marketing and visibility.
This logo is an emblem you can place on all your physical works like website, album covers, EPK and even on merchandise. If you decide to have a logo, here are five things you need to consider:
What is your logo saying?
First impressions matter and this is the same with logos. What is your logo saying?
The same way you create an impression about someone you meet for the first time based on what they are wearing or how they speak, this is the same reaction you will get when people see your logo for the first time. Your visuals need to portray a message/statement that will create some form of connection with your fans.
Find a great designer
You need to employ the services of a graphics designer who understands your brand and can translate the vision and culture of the brand in your logo.
Make it uncomplicated
What you really need to do is keep your logo simple. Let’s look at the Star Boy logo as an example: it’s white text on black. Since it’s inception, the Wizkid imprint has been consist with using this logo in their videos and artworks.
Keep it simple.
Make it unforgettable
We’ve said keep it simple, but you need to make it memorable. You want to create a design that’ll stay in the minds of your fans.
Its important you think about the fonts, typography and colours you want to use for your logo especially if it’s going to consist of an image/illustration and text. It’s best you stick with minimal colours.
Social Media
Social media is a great place to showcase your new logo to the world. In this new business age, it’s important you have an online presence. In most cases, you'll find that you'll be using this logo on creatives across this platform.
Good luck!
