In a game that was largely dominated by the home team, Louis van Gaal’s men would be kicking themselves for failing to make any viable use of the numerous chances created. But one player that had an evening to forget is the returning Robin van Persie.

The Dutch striker was handed his first start since February after nursing a recurring ankle injury. But he was unable to make any impact - First he blew a big chance to equalize when he missed a penalty that Saido Berahino conceded. His 25-yard effort was saved by West Brom’s goalkeeper Boaz Myhill after a cross from Ashley Young.

The 31-year-old might seek to stay at Old Trafford to see out the remainder of his contract, albeit, that is if United are willing to keep him.

Even the striker expressed fears of not getting a new contract in January when his current deal expires next year. Now that assertion is edging towards reality.

Louis van Gaal has had a turbulent maiden season in England, and if he is successful in securing Champions League spot for the Red Devils, word around Old Trafford echoes the Dutch doesn't see the future in his current team and is prepared to make a summer overhaul, that is vehemently backed by the Club’s hierarchy.

And if he is determined to make any drastic adjustment to his blunt attacking department, Van Persie, 31, could be in for a tensed summer.
