The financial might of the Premier League has once again made its overwhelming presence felt at the start of the summer transfer window. In just seven days since the official opening on July 1st, English clubs have already invested a staggering €1.014 billion in new signings. Of the 32 official deals completed so far, three involve Portuguese players, one of whom is Rodrigo Rêgo (who joined Brighton from Benfica for €3.5 million). Here's a look at the top 10.

This figure, which includes the activation of buy-out clauses for players previously on loan, highlights a widening gap between the Premier League and other major European leagues. For comparison, during the entire summer transfer window last year, La Liga clubs spent €788 million – a sum already surpassed by the English league in just one week. In that same period, the Premier League set a record by splashing out over €4 billion.

At the outset of this transfer window, Tottenham stands as the biggest spender, having invested a total of €266 million across three new acquisitions. Other clubs have followed suit with significant spending, demonstrating that this trend of high investment isn't limited to the league's top teams.

The primary driver behind this immense spending power lies mainly in the astronomical revenues generated from television rights. In the 2024/25 season, Southampton, who finished last, pocketed €128 million, while champions Liverpool, the highest earners, raked in €211 million. In Spain, only Barcelona and Real Madrid exceeded the amount received by the English bottom-placed team. Additionally, the domestic market is incredibly dynamic, with top clubs not hesitating to invest substantial sums in players from rival teams, which further fuels the league's financial ecosystem.

With rumors of other multi-million-euro transfers on the horizon, such as Bruno Guimarães' potential €60 million move from Newcastle to Arsenal or Andrey Santos' transfer from Chelsea to Manchester United for the same amount, expectations are high that the Premier League will continue its frenetic spending pace and could even surpass its own record for investment in a single transfer window.
