Premier League Rebellion: Star Sits Down, Demands Transfer, Coach Cancels Training

An unusual situation has marred the pre-season preparations of English football club Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Striker Tolu Arokodare reportedly refused to leave the pitch during training, instead sitting down on the grass and demanding a transfer to Italian club Fiorentina, according to BBC Sport. Head coach César Peixoto subsequently ended the training session early.

The 25-year-old Nigerian international is pushing for a move away from the club, which has already rejected an offer from Fiorentina. Wolverhampton, meanwhile, accepted a bid from Turkish side Trabzonspor, a destination Arokodare is unwilling to consider.

The forward was then absent from Wednesday's pre-season friendly against Maidenhead United. Later that evening, he took to social media to deny any unprofessional conduct.

"Throughout my career, I have always prided myself on acting professionally and maintaining the highest training standards. My commitment has always been to prepare myself as best as possible to help my teammates and the club whenever called upon," Arokodare stated.

He further added: "I remain under contract with Wolverhampton, and my sole intention is to fulfill my duties professionally – to train, do my job, and contribute to the team in accordance with this contract."

This isn't Arokodare's first disciplinary issue at Wolverhampton. In April, the club sanctioned him following an altercation with young forward Mateus Mané. The Nigerian joined the club last year from Belgian side Genk for approximately £24 million, but only managed three goals in the Premier League last season. Wolverhampton finished bottom of the league and were relegated to the second tier.

The incident also marks the first significant test for new head coach César Peixoto, who took charge just last month with the goal of returning Wolverhampton to the Premier League as quickly as possible.
