Manchester United snatch late win against Liverpool, Arsenal held at Stoke
Manchester United held Liverpool till the 78th minute before snatching a late goal to pip their rivals 1-0 at Anfield.
Liverpool were the better team in the game but could not make good of their chances before United struck through Wayne Rooney with just 12 minutes remaining.
Memphis Depay took a short corner, which Juan Mata whipped in and Marouane Fellaini won very well in the air.
His header hit the bar, but Rooney was quickest to react, lashing the ball in in with the surrounding Liverpool players sluggish.
Louis Van Gaal's team had just one shot on target compared to Liverpool's four shots, with David De Gea coming to United's rescue on several times.
In the other game played on Sunday, January 17, Arsenal were held by Stoke City at the Britania stadium.
The Gunners have only won once there in seven previous attempts since Stoke were promoted to the Premier League in 2008.
Olivier Giroud got an opportunity to put Arsenal head in the first half but Jack Butland was on hand to save for Stoke City.
Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech was also impressive for the Gunners, pulling out lots of saves that gave Arsenal the point.
