After dropping the first set 25-21, the team led by João José asserted their dominance in the subsequent sets, securing wins with scores of 25-16, 25-12, and 25-19. This triumph sees Portugal finish the tournament with 12 points, tallying four victories and two defeats, placing them 12th among the 27 participating teams.

The Portuguese national team had already been eliminated from contention for the top four spots, which would have guaranteed access to the final phase and direct qualification for the 2028 European Championship, following their 3-0 loss to Hungary on Saturday.

In this particular match, Portugal started poorly, committing several errors in reception and attack. This allowed Azerbaijan, a theoretically weaker team, to take an early lead. The first set remained tight until 19-19, at which point the home side pulled away to close it out 25-21.

The Portuguese reaction was immediate. In the second set, setter Bruno Dias's serves were crucial, sparking an initial 7-0 run, a lead the team comfortably managed. The story repeated itself in the third set, this time with Nuno Marques serving to propel Portugal to an 8-1 advantage, culminating in an emphatic 25-12 victory.

In the fourth and final set, with Diogo Fevereiro taking over setting duties from Bruno Dias, the team maintained their strong performance. Kelton Tavares stood out with attacks through the middle and powerful serves, helping to build an initial 10-3 lead that was comfortably maintained until the end of the match.
