Barely two weeks after the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) announced its planned industrial action the union has suspended the strike.

The Union had earlier announced that polytechnics across the country will be shut down if the FG continues to intimidate and force its members into the IPPIS payment platform without first securing their emoluments.

ASUP in its earlier statement said the union has no choice but to give the 21-day ultimatum since the FG refuses to implement its memorandum of settlement.

However, in another statement signed by its National President, Comrade Usman Dutse, ASUP said the three weeks ultimatum the union issued the Federal Government would no longer lead to industrial action.

He said the strike was suspended due to the commitment the Federal Government showed at various negotiation  meetings held with the union.

The union also said it decided to give the government more time to concretise its promises on it demands after considering the government's appeals and commitments to resolve the issues in dispute.
