Midfielder Patrick Berg is ecstatic after Norway's qualification for the World Cup quarterfinals. He shared that he is living out his childhood dream and stated that after Sunday's 2-1 victory over Brazil, the Scandinavians no longer fear any team in the tournament.
"We believe in our team; we are a very cohesive group that loves to play together. Now we are no longer afraid of any opponent. We knew Brazil was an excellent team, even though they lost today," Berg declared.
"We still consider them an exceptional team. We have immense respect for Brazil, not only for their performance at this World Cup but also for their entire history. I would say Brazil is the greatest footballing nation, and it was incredible for me to play against them. I've dreamed of this moment since I was a child," the player added.
Norway secured their place among the top eight teams at the 2026 World Cup, defeating Brazil 2-1 with two second-half goals from Erling Haaland. This result marks the European nation's best achievement in World Cup finals history.
"We had an excellent day and executed our plan perfectly. We must also give credit to Norway – a very strong team over the past two years. It's tough to play against us. I respect Brazil greatly and don't want to say anything bad about them; it's obvious they gave their all. Today we managed to qualify, and we are very happy," Berg commented.
At the end of the interview, the Bodø/Glimt midfielder once again spoke about his childhood dream coming true with their advancement.
"This was the most important thing for us, and beating Brazil makes the success even greater. As I said, Brazil is the greatest nation in football. To beat Brazil and qualify for the quarterfinals? That truly is a dream come true. We are very proud," he concluded.
Norway awaits the winner of the match between Mexico and England to learn their opponent in the next phase of the 2026 World Cup. The quarterfinal match will be played next Saturday at 6:00 PM (Brazilian time).
