INEC warns against vote buying ahead of poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that it will not tolerate any form of electoral fraud during the upcoming Osun governorship election.

The Osun state governorship election is slated to hold on September 22, 2018.

INEC also said that the Osun governorship election will be used to s end a strong message to vote buyers.

This was made known by the Osun state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Olusegun Agbaje at an interactive session with media executives and reporters on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, according to Punch.

INEC also promised to be fair to all political parties during the election.

A statement read on behalf of the REC by the Director of Voter Education, Venerable Stephen Ojewande, said “The Osun State governorship election must be used to send a very strong message to vote buyers and sellers as well as other perpetrators of criminal activities during elections.”

INEC warns officials

According to Punch, Rotimi Oyekanmi, the spokesman to the chairman of INEC, warned any of its officials caught in any fraudulent act will be dealt with according to the law.

Oyekanmi also described the media as INEC’s critical stakeholders.

Secret ballot system

On Monday, September 3, 2018, INEC revealed that it is working on a secret balloting system to curb vote-buying in the governorship election in Osun.
